Chapter 16
Dante returns to Marseilles. In disguise as a priest; telling the story of Dante's who died in prison, and wanted to reward his friends with a diamond. One of the friends the priest(Dante) is supposed to give the diamond to Caderousse. In his meet with caderousse dante learns that Mercedes married Fernando, The Dunglars are rich.

Chapter17
Dante in disguised meets with an inspector from the prison who heavily investigated morrel and sons. Dante offers to buy Morrel and sons since it is of no value any more. Dante wants to help morrel, because he tried to release Dante and helped his father.

Chapter 18
Dante now disguised as an English businessman, visits Morrel. It is revealed that the pharoan had been lost. the ship was the only way morrell would be able to pay off his debt. Dante tells Morels daughter to follow the instructions from a letter sent to her by a sailor. …show more content…

In the purse is money that Morrel gave Dante’s father to pay for food. Morrell tells his son that he's is going to kill himself. Just before he is about to kill himself Morels daughter shows him a note that says his debt has been fully paid off, The purse also has a diamond in it. It is discovered that the pharaon will come into harbor.

Chapter 20 Dantes latest disguise is the count of monte cristo. Monte Cristo takes to men (Franz and Albert) to see an execution. During the execution monte cristo rambles about death and says “an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth”.

Chapter 21
Albert is taken hostage by Luigi and his gang. Franz doesn't have enough money to pay alberts ransom, so he seeks out the count. Monte cristo settles the matter quickly, and franz and albert walk out in
