In “The Stolen Party,” author Liliana Heker uses third person limited to create a surprise ending. In stories, surprise ending create a depth to the story. Since short stories don’t have room to develop a plot, surprise endings can provide an aid to the plot. One reason for using third person limited is to make the plot fuller with a surprise ending. Rosaura did not know that she was being used as a servant. If the story had been written in third person omniscient, Senora Ines’ thoughts would have made the surprise known earlier and the surprise ending would have been ruined.
