In Two kinds Suyuan believed that America is where her dreams will be fulfilled. She thought that her daughter, Jing-mei, would be the one to realize them. The short story begins with a young girl and her mom. The young girl mom wanted her to play the piano. The young girl didn’t like the piano lessons. Even though she messed up at her first performance her mom still made her continue taking the lessons.
