In Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber on Fleet Street, a barber named Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp) comes back to London in 1846 after being falsely convicted to carry out his revenge among those who exiled him. After, Sweeney Todd kills yet another batch of people, he hears Ms. Lovett (Helena Carter) scream. The scene begins with a medium close up of Ms. Lovett as she recognizes one of the victims lying dead on the floor, and whispers "you" under her breath. When the diegetic sound of footsteps can be heard approaching, in a reaction shot, Ms. Lovett hurriedly grabs the body of the deceased. As the musical score changes, the camera switches between close-ups of Ms. Lovett face, the mystery women, and Sweeny Todd. Sweeney coming to realization on who the mystery women is says "You knew she lived. You lied to me" Later, entangled in a dance Ms. Lovett's expressions changes to a smile on her face, and sings in a joyful voice as they continue to dance. Suddenly, Sweeney throws Ms. Lovett into the furnace as her screams, and the synchronous sound of the fire crackling can be heard. First, the reaction shot of Ms. Lovett portrays that she wants the identity of the mystery women to be kept hidden. Then, Sweeney Todd comes into the room offering to help dispose of the body as if there is nothing out of the normal, but Ms. Lovett’s reluctance to let him do so hints to the audience otherwise.
