In the essay “The Plastic Pink Flamingo: A Natural History,” (1999), Jennifer Price details the natural history of American culture and its pretentious ideals, while criticizing Americans for their frivolity during the 1900’s. Price illuminates her ideas by utilizing colorful diction, irony, alliteration, and a pink flamingo as a symbol of American destructiveness and superficiality. Utilizing pop culture references, Price’s purpose is to highlight American culture for being obsessed with trends and commercializing them instead of appreciating the genuine beauty within them. Price’s ostensible audience are American people to whom she addresses in a satirical tone while poking fun of for being ignorant and materialistic. Price commences her essay with a critical tone and colorful diction to ridicule the flamboyance when pink flamingos “splashed” into the fifties market.

The book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is about two gangs and their big rivalry. Every once in awhile a few people get jumped by the other gang, but besides that everything was fine, until one night when things go too far. Throughout the book the gangs learn that they are not so different and that they have more in common then they think. The author uses many different symbols that each contain a different purpose. Each symbol achieves a different goal, such as to develop a theme, introduce the characters, develop a motivation, to stir empath between the characters, develop a mood, and build suspense.
Every mark conveys a meaning usually changing depending upon the text . In cutting edge times, being called a cripple In any case, in the paper titled, "On Being a Disabled person" by Nancy Mairs, the maker legitimizes calling herself a debilitated individual, clearly insinuating a low self-respect at first look. Mairs contradicts that idea, also plotting her puzzling individual, social, and societal buildings in life. At the end of her article, she tells the group that she is an apt, driven, and shrewd woman who can manage both her degenerative contamination and the hardships of life, far from the slight, adolescent person who abhors herself.
In American culture, there is a constant state of flux in regards to what is in and what is not. In John Leland’s study, Hip: The History, these fluxes are examined in depth and are thouroughly investigated. Leland establishes that being hip is not something that can be defined by some locals hanging out in a coffee shop in a rainy city wearing combat boots and flannel but rather by centuries of cultures in what was the mxing pot of America all melding together to create a unique yet unified sound. Through his anaylsis of the Beboppers, Leland sets up a premise for Hip that had previously not been established. To be considered hip, in modern day terms, is not someting that is commonly achieved.
The setting takes place in a suburban neighborhood like an area in the United States around the 1950's to 1960's. The mentalities of the people in the citizens reflect conformist tendencies of the community because they are negatively judgmental when they notice the girls in the story. The A&P store and customers of the story shape the time and setting to establish what is taking the place of the setting during that time. The A&P supermarket was arguably American's premier grocery store during the 1960s. Therefore, setting the scene of the A&P supermarket highlights the era of the 1960s.

In their advertisement for “Delifresh Oven Roasted Turkey Breast”, Oscar Mayer suggests that their Oven Roasted Turkey Meat is not “complicated” or full of additives. By juxtaposing the turkey and the chair’s “ingredient” tables and the satirization of the chair, the creator places emphasis on the distortion of a product containing additives and the lack of additives in Oscar Mayer’s meat. The anaphora of “It’s” in their slogan creates the immediate association of quality to their packaged cold cuts, while aphorism is incorporated by making a statement that life is complicated, but “your sandwich doesn’t have to be”. Portmanteau supports Oscar Mayer’s ad by combining sane and sandwich to make “sanewich”, referring to the ease of making a sandwich

Valley of the Dolls could be interpreted in many ways which are what leads to the frustration of people like Mr. Robinson because designers do not all have the same vision. The era of the Valley of the Dolls was specifically influential to an era, as told by the editorial director of Paper Magazine, Mickey Boardman; “‘Valley’ has perennial commercial appeal, . . . For some reason, that era speaks to me aesthetically much the way ‘Downton Abbey’ speaks to Ralph Lauren,” he said, “There will always be a market for that look, which is very hard and slick in the sense that it’s the opposite of the hippie”(Meltzer). The 1960s were a time where flower power was popular, but “Valley” had a retro style similar to the 50s but it was somewhat modernized to fit the 1960s.

Winter was just around the corner. It was my first time in the biggest coffee shop in town. I could see the cheerful and brilliant lighting of the shop as I walked across the vast parking lot. There were tables outside the shop each with a brown vintage style umbrella. This particular coffee shop is not a cafe, it’s a coffee shop literally.
Strengths: As a student one of my strengths is organization. I can say I can keep my school materials and notebooks organized in a way that I and others can comprehend. The reason I can say I am organized is because, I have hardly ever had in the past or present any issues with trying to find homework or assignments because I always kept my materials for each class organized and in a place I could easily find. Another strength I have is social skills. I can believe that I communicate with others well in a group.
