“They are trapped in lives of misery—often beaten, starved, and forced to work as prostitutes or to take grueling jobs as migrant, domestic, restaurant, or factory workers with little or no pay”(FBI 2015). Human trafficking has become an epidemic. Many look at human trafficking and see it as a global issue. They see it happening to other countries, when in reality, it’s happening in our back yards. What other’s don’t know is trafficking hides away, but is actually closer to us then you think. How can this problem be resolved? We address the problem at the source, pimp. The laws state that selling sex is illegal, however, if pimps avoid contact with clients directly, they get around the illegal part of it. They stage it to where the prostitutes …show more content…

“Interactionism is based on the concept that people understand themselves and their social worlds through interactions, adaptations, and negotiations of social cues.” (Plante 2015). They analyze how the workers feel and view these situations. Many of them deal with degrading labels and associations because of their job, whether or not they enjoy it. Even the sex working males, willing or unwilling, often feel degraded. On the other side, some see themselves as providers of a needed service. How do they handle this social judgement and labeling? Well it makes sense, offer more jobs and if that’s what these people want to do, then why can’t they. The problem isn’t that selling sex isn’t plain sick, it’s the fact that so many people are forced into this industry. Our laws today prevent one from selling sex, but not from buying it. Allowing people to legally buy sex creates a market demand, leading to more prostitutes needed, leading to higher sex trafficking rates. Even if women are willing to work in this industry, the situations that they are forced into degrade them down to nothing. Again it creates a world where the male dominates and the women are weak. Think about it; the pimps (mostly men) take care of the jobs and meet-up. The pimp controls where they work, and which clients they have for the most part. The women go in, complete the job, and then report back to the pimp to pay him a percentage of her earnings. She did all the work, but he gets some of the money. Even the pimp dominates the weak
