In the short stories “Alice” and “A Rose for Emily,” Paulette White and William Faulkner use doors as a way of symbolism. These symbols bring out the purpose of the stories. The use of doors in both works are used differently, but both have a unique meaning to the stories. In the story “Alice” we first see the image of a door in line 8 where Alice is compared to an “open door.” By calling Alice and open door, the author is pointing out how Alice is an amicable character.
