My symbol was the block. I thought this represented the ghettos and living spaces in the camps. My first detail is that Elie stayed in a ghetto when he first got involved in the war. “Two ghettos were created in Sighet.” (Wiesel 11)

Throughout these five chapters Tim O’Brien use symbolism to shows meaning indirectly, so the reader can use their mind to figure it out. The one symbol that stood out to me is from the chapter “Style” where a girl continue to dance without paying attention to her surround. There isn’t specific lines that show symbolism which mean that the entire chapter help shows the symbolism. The meaning of the symbolism from this chapter of why the girl is always dancing after her family died is that war is hopeless and meaningless where there is no point of fight because most of the time there’s no winner.

This couple rushed into marriage because they had a baby on the way, but four months after the baby was born it died of sudden infant death syndrome. In this story Norma Jean ,the wife, is the breadwinner of the family while her husband Leroy stays at home because of an injury he sustained at work.
