In the short story “The Drummer Boy of Shiloh” by Ray Bradbury, the author introduces us to the character the General. The General reveals the trait of fearfulness. The General approaches Joby as is lying down and questions Joby if he is the drummer boy. The General is curious about how Joby joined the army. He then answers his own question by stating that it’s a fool’s question. He continues on to explain how he cried too, relating to Joby. The General understands that not everyone is going to make it and war will not be easy. He is hoping that the other side will give up, so they can go home in a few weeks.
