After I have read the Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I realized that there were multiple different symbols that helped convey complex ideas. For me I have found that in the Novel there are three important symbols that help shape the plot of the story and these are Methuselah the Parrot, Palindromes: Which is Ada’s journal, and lastly the green Mamba snake that killed Ruth May. The significance about all of these symbols is that they tend to add a meaning and depth to the story.
Thus, the author uses the two symbols, cranberry sauce and the hole, to show a loss in Billie Jo and her father’s lives. Primarily, the author's use of symbolism shows how cranberry sauce greatly affects
Symbols can be found everywhere, yet interpretations differ depending on the perspective of the individual. In the twentieth episode of NCIS titled, “Missing,” there are a multitude of symbols used to tell an intriguing story (“Missing”). One involving the role reversal between captor and captee. Several of these symbols are the cross necklace, the marines who were declared deserters, and the pain in Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ chest. The clearest of the three was that of the cross necklace which represented the sins of our victim, Bill Atlas (“Missing”).
These symbols show dynamics in the characters and foreshadow events in the story. Some of the most important symbols were Clarisse McClellan, the salamander and books. One of the major symbols in the story was Clarisse McClellan. She began the plot of the narrative. This all began with simple walks down the street.
But understanding the symbols and patterns is what makes the progression of the book more interesting. But in the story, a certain theme is present throughout the pages and that is the symbol of not giving up on what you believe in. As the story continues, we understand that Jews did not give up their faith even if it cost them their lives. Which shows the relentlessness of the Jews in their faith. Another symbol that is present in the book is the care the Jews have for other Jews.
Throughout the history of the US, there were many movements and acts that emphasize the rights, justice, and equality of every US citizen, they were needed to push the society move forward. There were some that failed after a long time because of lacking supports from the people, but there also many movements that were so successful that changed the whole way how the US handles Democracy and its people rights. Those movements were maybe not last for a long time but were needed to show everyone that the power and wealth of a nation come through its citizen, and each person has the power to fight for their happiness and equality. In many righteous acts that the people have started, there were two acts that made an enormous change to the US political and economic system, not only they improve the people lives, they were also the main reason why America is such promising and full of opportunities to the eyes of many immigrants. Those two are The Populist Movement and The Progressive era.

Symbolism In the gift of the magi, William Sydney porter frequently uses figurative language such as symbols. Symbols were such good signs about what the book was going to be about and what was going to happen it was clues token from the passage that the author wants the readers to know. The author used symbols such as in (porter page 140) he stated ‘the other was Della’s hair’ so the readers didn’t really know what at that point what she was going to do with her but when the author showed this symbols we right away knew what she was going to do with her hair because in the begging of the passage the readers knew that Della wanted to buy a Christmas present for her husband Jim. Also another reason why Della’s hair was a great symbol telling
William Wordsworth wrote “Steamboats, Viaducts, and Railways” during the early 19th century. At this time, the Industrial Revolution was taking place in England, which most likely influenced this particular poem. In 1712, Thomas Newcomen invented the steam engine, which created a path for powering trains, steamboats, and factories; it was improved by James Watt in 1769. The Revolution, however, started in 1764 when James Hargreaves invented the “spinning jenny”, which was a machine with the ability to produce multiple spools of thread at the same time. With inventions such as the cotton gin by Eli Whitney, the telegraph by Samuel Morse in 1844, the sewing machine by Elias Howe in 1846, and the elevator safety brake by Elisha Otis in 1853, the

Stories usually have hidden meaning put there by the author to entertain the thoughts of those patient enough to dig deeper into the hidden message. Messages in stories are expressed in various ways. In the short story, “The Gift of the Magi”, written by, O' Henry, the theme is, when a person truly loves someone they are willing to sacrifice just about anything to see a loved one happy. Such message was demonstrated in the story through the usage of the following literary devices: irony, symbolism, and diction to set a tone. Irony is when the opposite of what is expected does not happen. Symbolism is a person, place, or thing that suggests more than its literal meaning. Diction is the word choice used by an other, leading to the tone or felling in the atmosphere.
An example of a symbol in the text is the pool that becomes filled with green weeds when Duane stops cleaning it: “I stopped cleaning the pool. It filled up with green gick so that the guests wouldn’t use it anymore.” (ll. 3-4, p. 144). This happens contemporary with Duane’s extramarital affair and thus, it happens contemporary with the incipient fading of Duane and Holly’s relationship. Therefore, the pool is a symbol of the decay or failure of the relationship between Duane and Holly.
