Firstly, the sun would be a major symbol of the story which would symbolize happiness of the characters. Once the sun was out all the kids were happy and having the time of their lives. Running outside in the sun was all they wanted. In the passage it states, “The children lay out, laughing, on the jungle mattress, and heard it sigh and squeak under them resilient and alive.” (4). As you can see, they were laughing and enjoying their time with their friends in the sun. They enjoyed having the time to run around and be outside with all of there friends.
