One of these is the bodyguards. The bodyguards were not sent out to stop racism and harassment, but they were instead there to show false support for the idea of integration. The President felt he had to show that he wasn’t willingly supporting segregationists, so he used bodyguards to prove this.

Flannery O’Connor’s Wise Blood follows Hazel Motes’ attempt to abandon his religious beliefs and establish a “Church Without Christ”. Hazel Motes and many of the characters in Wise Blood seek material prosperity but utilize religion as a means to reach such a goal. This perversion of Christianity for materialistic objectives prevents the characters’ redemption from Christ. Specifically in the case of Motes, it is not until he has lost everything material that he finally accepts Jesus’ divine grace. The grotesque characters exist to display the distortion of moral purpose that materialism brings.

That bond kept Maddie Townsend close with her childhood friends Helen and Dana Sue in Stealing Home. Written by Sherryl Woods, Stealing Home deals with newly divorced Maddie Townsend and her struggle to cope with everyday living with three children after the divorce. Maddie has had many struggles in her life; however, she struggled with making her children understand why their father left with a new woman who is currently pregnant.
During a time of war, a british plane carrying a group of schoolboys is shot down over the Pacific, killing all adults and leaving the group of boys stranded on an island. One of the two leaders of the group, Jack, is the perfect character to portray humanity changing from civilized to savage. Jack is power-hungry, violent, and savage. In the beginning of the book, Jack is innocent and carelessly follows the leader, Ralph.
