In the beginning of her memoir, she puts a quote that says “To John, for convincing me that everyone who is interesting has a past”. So many people in today's world are struggling with poverty. Walls showed the reader what it is like to not get everything asked for, or even things that people need in life. She wrote about how she had to search through garbage cans to get food and steal things from clothes stores to be able to have new clothes. She wrote that she was made fun of for the way she smelled because they could not afford to take a shower more than once a month.

The poem “Where There’s a Wall” by Joy Kogawa uses various imagery and symbolism to further enhance the effectiveness of the poem and its message. Like most other poems, “Where There’s a Wall” contains several layers of meaning, which is why it requires the reader to dig through the little details and examples in order to see the big picture. One segment of the poem makes reference to peaceful methods to approach the obstacle of a wall standing in one’s way. It states, "Where there's a wall/ there's a way/ around, over, or through/ there's a gate/ maybe a ladder/ a door."
) The name “Rose” is symbolic in showing how Rose continues to love Troy. Rose, like the flower, is continuously caring and loving. For example, when Troy broke the news to Rose about the affair and child he is having.
To the narrator, the wall is not physically appealing, and he does not enjoy the fact that every year him and his neighbors have to come together to repair this wall. Where as, in “The Yellow Wall-Paper” the narrator explains the story of a woman breaking free from her normal life. It can be interpreted that the narrator was not happy with her old self, so when she got the opportunity to break free she took it as quickly as she could.

When we look around the room, we see walls. The walls give a representation about the Inside Herman Melville’s short story, “Bartleby the Significance of the Wall,” describes the short life of Bartleby as he tries to find his meaning to live. When Bartleby could not discover his life, he then turns to the walls, waiting for an answer to come to him. The wall where Bartleby sits in front of every day represents his future as a blank wall, nothing for him to look forward to.
This is seen in “Mending Wall” when the narrator describes the stone wall that runs between his neighbor and himself, and how they repair it every spring: “And set the wall between us once again. We keep the wall between us as we go” (Frost 1). They keep both a physical wall in between themselves as they walk, but also a mental wall because they seem to not agree on purpose of having a wall between their properties. The narrator thinks that the wall is pointless, because they have no reason for a physical boundary between their properties since they are both farmers with no animals. However, the neighbor just repeats in response each time with ”Good walls make good neighbors” (Frost 1).

This thing applies to my own life because I have never really surrounding myself around people who didn’t really want nothing in life. Roger Waters represents the lyrics “all in all you’re just another brick in the wall” as education being a pain, and a worthless amount of time. Personally, the wall is as a self-isolating barrier we build through our lives. The bricks are people, or events, which turns us inward, away from others and reality (Marcelo).
