"America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and unbeatable determination to do the job at hand" (Truman). This could not be more true. The United States of America symbolizes so many different things for everyone like hope, prosperity, freedom, and a new beginning. The American Dream is "an American social ideal that stresses egalitarianism and especially material prosperity" and egalitarianism is "a belief in human equality especially with respect to social, political, and economic affairs" (Merriam-Webster). In more understandable words, the American Dream is the ability for anyone to come to America and achieve anything they put their minds to. The colonies did not like being owned by another country. They wanted to break away from Britain and all of their rules. So, a very important group of people started meeting and coming up with the best ideas possible to put into the document declaring their freedom from Britain. Some of the people in this group included: Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Hancock, and many others who also played an influential role in U.S. history ("What Price Freedom - What Happened to the Signers of the American Declaration of Independence"). The Declaration served a major purpose. "It articulates the fundamental ideas that form the American nation: All men are created free and equal and possess the same inherent, natural rights" ("The Declaration of Independence").
