Symbols and/or Motifs help show larger ideas in the story. Symbols add curiosity, You may hear a word that symbolizes something without you even realizing it until later in the story. In the Story “Kirk? Krak!” Written by Edwidge Danticat, there is a lot of symbolism and motifs in the story. The story is very heart heavy but has a great meaning behind it. And just as the baby’s head sank, so did hers. They went together like two bottles beneath a waterfall.” In this passage the author didn’t even have to mention the words mother and daughter. You just know what the author is talking about. Celianne was the mother of that baby girl. She did not want to let go of her baby even though she passed during birth. Celianne made the decision to throw her baby overboard as the boat was already too heavy and sinking. She didn’t want to let her baby go alone so once she threw her baby overboard she jumped as well so she could be with her
