Scarlet Ibis- Symbolism, Doodle and the bird. In the short story “The Scarlet Ibis”, The bird's body size was that of a chicken. In the story, “The Scarlet Ibis” the text states, “ A bird a size of a chicken.” Showing the body size of the bird. In the story the text also explains, “ With scarlet feathers and long legs.” Showing the color and visualization of the bird's body (180). Meanwhile, Doodle is told to be “Fragile.” like the bird. In addition, stating that the Doodle has “Little legs” (183). Sadly, neither the Bird nor Doodle was supposed to be there. The story shows that everyone except for the aunt thought that the Doodle wasn’t going to survive. “Everybody thought he was going to die.” and, “Coffin” symbolizing the death (169).
