Symphony For The City Of The Dead In the book Symphony for the city of the dead by M.T. Anderson, the main argument is that Hitler thought that not just Jews were worthless, but also that Russians were worthless. Through the entire book we can see first hand experiencing wars, battles, and going through different leaders. The book starts off in St Petersburg Russia, as people are suffering from terrorist attacks, and a terrible government. “The political and economic situation got worse. Terrorism was on the rise. In the first year and a half of Shostakovich’s life, roughly 4,500 government officials were injured or killed in assassination attempts by radicals.In his toddler years, the government recorded 20,000 terrorist acts across the empire with more than 7,500 fatalities”(17-18). Just a couple of years after these terrorist attacks World War 1 begane which devastated Russia. Millions of people in Russia during World War 1 were starving or killed. To make matters even worse, the Russian government was falling apart. Riots started to break out in Russia to end the war. Finally in 1918 the war ended which brought remorse to the people of Russia, however it did not last long. Right after World War 1 the October Revolution took place in Russia to allow the “Bolsheviks-the communists-to power over all other possible parties”(28). The October …show more content…

The book starts off in the early 1900’s and end in the 1940’s. This decision by the author to write this book in this order is genius because it is telling the reader the events in order. This book what not make any sense if the events were out of place. The structure of the book aowes the author to tell event in order, and also support their main argument of Russians being worthless. The structure goes through World war 2 which is when Hitler was in power. The structure allows us the reader to see how Hitler viewed the Russians before, during, and after in
