Landon Oldenski Spies by Marc Favreau. My book, “Spies” is about the espionage of the U.S. and the USSR. The book focuses on stories of covert spies on each side and the politics that drove the conflict. Author Marc Favreau has written multiple books, all with great political and historical influence. I chose this book because the Cold War had no real battles being fought. Any of the conflict was through spies and the whole aspect of espionage interested me. I think Marc Favreau’s intention in writing this book was to show people the way the Cold War was fought. Not many people know about international spies, and this book not just informs readers, but makes it exciting and entertaining as well. Marc Favreau is an author from New York. The book is almost a compilation of different spy stories from the Cold War, but his choice of words and tone make it seem much more real and personal than someone just describing events. The book’s beginning is quite exciting, throwing readers right into an American covert mission. Favreau’s opening is exciting and does a great job at grabbing readers’ attention. Throughout the book, the author doesn’t just leave us with gaps between different American and Soviet spy stories, he does a great job giving context on the political aspects of this war. The stories are laid out in chronological order with great detail in between, giving readers the information needed to understand what is truly going on during this war. Favreau’s writing style contains a lot of descriptive details. Since he is writing from the third person, he gives awesome descriptions of settings, characters, and the events taking place. He does a great job making you visualize the events, which adds a whole new realness to the stories taking
