Is allowing teenagers onto social media helpful, or harmful? Minors have been able to access social media for a long time, making people split into two groups. Some say that allowing younger audiences onto social media benefits them in good ways. While others say that they should have to wait until they are the age of at least eighteen for their safety. Minors should be restricted from the usage of social media for their protection against stolen identities and serious depression. First, allowing adolescents usage to social media is harmful to them since identity theft is a surprisingly common issue that could ruin one's life. Some say "heavy" gamers who use social media have better chances of not getting depression, "Heavy gamers who have a network of friends on social media seem to do better than those who play the games a lot and don't have similar social networks" (Source 1 14). According to this source, gamers who have friends online do better that friends that don't. People do way better offline and having friends in person instead of on social media! Then, using social media may not be the issue according to source one, as it doesn't have enough evidence. Having body-image problems apparently doesn't happen with the use of social media, "The Royal Society survey that found a link between social media use and body-image problems didn't dig deeply enough" (Source 1 16).
