The Alchemist Synthesis essay The alchemist is an inspiring and thoughtful book filled with archetypes and connections to many things, including myself. One connection is Joseph Campbell's work. One of campbells many quotes that I personally love and has a link with the alchemist is '' Whatever your fate is, whatever the hell happens, you say this is what I need. It may look like a wreck, but go at it as though it were an opportunity, a challenge. If you bring love to that moment not discouragement you will find the strength there." A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself." Again, the last sentence is like Santiago, he gave up his life as being a shepherd to find his legend bigger than himself. With the whole follow your bliss thing with Campbell it really goes along with the alchemist. Another quote from him that goes along perfectly with Santiago's journey and how the mysterious man explains the world's biggest lie is "Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls." One of my personal experiences with follow your bliss and basically the whole archetypes is when I wanted to do music. While being raised I was always pressured to do sports and such, although I was good at it and I liked it at the time; it didn’t feel right.
