Taha 1P5 Revisions The things we do matter There are many poems with many meanings but among all these meanings and all these poems the best one is “A Creed” by Edwin Markham. The message shown in the poem is no matter where you’re from or how different you may be; it’s the good things we do in life that matter. This is a one of a kind message that is prominent amongst all other poems. To give this message Markham uses quatrains, rhymes and specific word choice. The way Markham uses all these things in his poem proves its excellence as well as aids the readers understanding in the meaning of the poem. The first stanza contains words relating to togetherness and karma, “brothers” “none—alone” “come back into our own”. This addresses the first part of the message saying it’s what you do, and your actions that depict who you are. The second stanza covers the second part of the message saying that your actions depict who you are. “Temples or his creeds” “firm and fast” “soul—cast” involving words relating to beliefs, strong holds, the person as an individual. The order of words choice is convenient for the reader because it lays out the poem in the same way as the message, allowing easier depicting and remembering of the message. The rhyme alternating from the beginning gives kind soft words, “brothers” “creeds” “deeds”, whereas the opposite alternating words that the poem ends with are harsher “fast”, “alone”, “cast”. The alternating tone given off by these words implies that no matter if we do good or bad, it still shapes us into who we are. All these words and phrases strengthen the message of its not who we are or where we’re from that matters, what we do is what really
