Sanity is in the mind of the beholder; one man’s reality may not be the reality of society. This becomes a sticking point when two men meet in a psychiatrist’s office “The Yellow Pill.” Since both men cannot be in reality, the story takes place in a psychiatry office on Earth based on evidence from the story. At the beginning of the short story, Dr.Elton flipped through client cards, preparing for his next session. Dr. Elton is a highly regarded psychologist. Dr. Elton was mentally healthy, so he would have no benefit from a medication that treats issues he did not have. Instead, the medication caused Dr. Elton difficulties. Although the medication created issues for Dr. Elton, his reality did not change. Jerry argued that if Dr. Elton took the yellow pill, Dr. Elton would realize that he was in space. After taking the yellow pill for the first time, Dr. Elton still believed that he was Dr. Cedric Elton, a psychiatrist on Earth.
