Futurism, an artistic movement started by an Italian named Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. He was born in 22, December 1876, he was an Italian poet, art theorist and editor. Marinetti is best known as the author of the Futurist Manifesto, but most importantly he is the founder of the Futurist movement. Futurism, an Italian art movement made to glorify technology, to remove the influence of the past on the present, and to demonstrate the beauty of the modern world.
The Futurist Movement loved to embrace technology in the movement and its art. The Futurist movement of the 20th century emphasized heavily on technology such as the automobiles, airplanes, and industrialization. Italy in the 19th and 20th century was still dominated by Renaissance art and culture, which Marinetti did not agree with. Marinetti believed “the past is necessarily inferior to the future. That is how we wish it to be”, Filippo believed the past was holding Italy from becoming “great” (Filippo Tommaso Marinetti). In Filippo’s art it is easily shown that he strives to go against common culture and beliefs such as renaissance art. Since Futurism became such a huge movement in Italy it eventually went into the political world, furthermore becoming the “most politicized art movement of the twentieth century” and in Italy (KhanAcademy). Futurist believed they had to merge artistic and political agendas to create a nationwide change of culture and politics in Italy. Furthermore, Futurism became an extremely nationalist party and such demanders of change that it created an alliance between Benito Mussolini and his National Fascist party.
