Taking risk is something we do every day and we may not even know it. Just walking outside is taking a risk; you could get killed or someone can take you. Also, taking a risk help us grow as a person and we can learn from taking those risks. It makes us who we are. Something taking risks can have a good and a bad outcome. In class, we read three stories that talk about taking a risk and what are the outcome of taking those risks. The first story we read was an epic poem called "Beowulf" we got to see all the risk he did to help the people around him and the outcome that come with it. Beowulf is a hero to the people that he looks after. By fighting the big bad Gendel, Gendel mother, and the dragon. Most of the fight's outcome was good, but when fighting the dragon Beowulf ended up dying. When Beowulf killed Gendel the "old and young rejoiced, turned back From that happy pilgrimage, mounted their hard-hooved Horses, high-spirited stallions, and rode them." (376) People admire him for what he did. He gives peace and mind to the people around him. Now they can sleep without getting killed. When Beowulf dies people respected him. "Crying that no better king had ever Lived, no prince so mild, no man So open to his people, so deserving of praise"(290) All Beowulf ever wanted to be is a hero and by him taking those risks he become the hero. We might not have the things we have today if we didn't take the risk that comes with it. Reagon said "but sometimes painful things like this happen. It's all part of the process of exploration and discovery. It's all part of taking a chance and expanding man's horizons." (29) We send people into space to learn more about what's out there and it was also because it was a race with Russia on who can get up to space first. As people, we need to know what out there and we always want the new thing to have or to do. Even though all seven of them pass away; we still learn from them from going into space. By upgrading our technology as a country; we have so much to offer to people that live here. Reagon also said "We've grown used to wonders in this country. It's hard to dazzle us. But for 25 years the United States space program had been doing just that." (22) This was an exciting time to be in the US when they went up into space was a big deal.
