“Tale From the Jungle: Margaret Mead”, youtube videos, which was introduced by Professor Ana, humanities professor, are a six long clip video documentaries of the first anthropology’s discoveries ever brought to public, the Samoan civilization. This ‘Samoan civilization’ anthropology discovery was discovered by Mead Margaret, an American female anthropologist, and later by Derek Freeman, an Australian anthologist. According to Mead Margaret, an American female anthropologist, she believes that humans are influenced by nurture. On the other side, Derek Freeman, an Australian anthologist, opposes Mead Margaret’s idea. He believes that humans are influenced by nature.
Even though these two anthropologists have rejected each other’s belief, they both have a solid evidence and argument which was obtained in Samoa. These later became a strong argument and division for anthropologists today. Question arises asking – which governs human nature more, nurture or nature? Anyway, this question is bias.
According to Mead Margaret and the title of her book, “Coming of Age in Samoa”, Mead’s research on adolescent girls, takes place in a small island of Ta’u. Based on the world map …show more content…

He disagrees that humans aren’t influenced by the environments they live in. He argues that humans are influenced by nature. He believes that Samoans are all influenced by the environments they were raised in. Similar to what Margaret Mead did, Derek Freeman went to Samoa, and observed Samoan’s way of living. However, one difference has occurred – he did his research on ‘Western Samoa’, which is called Samoa now. This ‘Western Samoa’ consists of two major islands, Savai’i and Upolu. In his visitation to ‘Western Samoa’, he saw a different lifestyle from what Mead wrote on her book, “Coming of Age in Samoa”. He saw the Samoan people were as aggressive as people in United States or other part of ‘global North’
