The Perceptions of People about Women in Afghanistan after Taliban Regime
Afghanistan is a country which has experience three decades of war. The wars have many negative impacts on people life, especially women. Many people have lost their life, family members and many of them have been misplaced inside the country and many other countries. Today the majority of refuges are from Afghanistan. However, major part of these problems is related to women’s life. At the time of war, they were facing many problems such as harassment and they were not allowed to go out. Many years after decline of Taliban regime women are suffering, are oppressed and criticized in many ways by conservative and patriarchal society of Afghanistan. Street Harassment, Physical violence, sexual or psychological violence, or are forced into marriage are common things, especially in rural area. But in cities such as Kabul, girls face different kind of criticizing or even humiliation. The girls who are going to school, university or doing job face another kind of oppression as well. The girl who fights for her or work outside the home or even going to school or universities is a shameless girl or shameless women. Even some people call them prostitute or whore. After many years of struggle people still expect women to stay in home and work as housewife or clean the house, cook and wash and raise the children. The women who works in social activities, beside street harassment, discrimination and others problem she should response to the questions that some people ask. For women activities such as journalism is “immoral work” and society sees the female journalists as “immoral person” (Jalalzai).This woman in eye of society is a bad women and useless or even ruffian. They usually ask women that you don’t need to work or go out when the male member of family is working.
