My Forbidden Face by Latifa Logan Foster Section 1 (Chapter 1) This is the beginning of the book. The first implications of war are shown in these pages. At first, you can tell that Latifa does not want to believe that the Taliban are in her city. She then learns that the leader, Najibullah, and his brother have been hung in the town square.
Given the oppressive rule of the Taliban, how could women survive without men in their family? The book The Other Side of the Sky by Farah Ahmedi and Tamim Ansary, answers that question by the journey of Farah and her mother. Their journey goes from Afghanistan all the way to America. On this trip, Farah and her mom face many hardships, including their physical injuries and losing their family. In Afghanistan and Pakistan women lacked various rights under Taliban rule that limited their freedoms, but conditions have improved since the Taliban relinquished their power, which shows that given the opportunity women can become independent.
The Taliban and the Nazis are two separate armies who took control of different places in very similar ways, if you did not agree with them consequences were brutal and sometimes public. They also spoke their opinions publicly and if you rejected their opinion or didn’t let them do what they wanted you could have been executed. They all came to power in very similar ways , doing similar things to manipulate the people into thinking that they were the best until later on taking control of their country and trying to make sure their beliefs were extinct. They can also be compared because of their motives , which were very similar being that they both believed in a perfect place or person which they wanted to make that country into. that they took control of.
Muslims holy book (Quran) did not allow men to do whatever they want, nor women. The source mentions that God gave men more strength than women; therefore, they have to protect and maintain the women. It also talks about lives of women and their relationship with men. Unlike Christianity and Buddhism, Quran stated that men and women are equal; however, when it comes to social terms and marriage, the Quran views women as inferior and subordinate. Also, the source stated that men were forbidden to inherit women against their will nor treat them with harshness.
One can see men and women treated differently in this country, and even Pinnacle High School. First off, the Taliban were extremely unjust to women during their rule. The Taliban set rules for women. Women must always wear a burqa, stay in their own house unless accompanied by a male relative, not speak unless spoken to, and must not be educated (Hosseini). The Taliban thought that the superior gender was men, while this wasn’t true at any time they still thought it was.
The Middle East has long struggled to show their women the rights and freedoms offered to most other women of the world. The struggle to gain equality amongst men has been unsuccessful as women today are still oppressed. They’re forced to cover the bodies and sometimes their faces, they can’t leave their homes without the company of a man, and they aren’t allowed to receive an education usually past middle school. These are just some of the things women are forced to deal with. Despite these restrictions seeming cruel and pointless, there are people who support this, including women.
Maxine Hong Kingston's use of talk stories in The Woman Warrior emphasizes that individuals will find a more fulfilling life if they defy the traditional gender norms place on them by society. While contemplating beauty standards in Chinese society in “No Name Woman” Maxine Kingston thinks, “Sister used to sit on their beds and cry together… as their mothers or their slaves removed the bandages for a few minutes each night and let the blood gush back into their veins” (9). From a young age girls are expected to be binding their feet and are told that it is to look beautiful, but in reality that is not why. When a womans feet are bound they are restrained and silenced. These girls could be free and happy but they are restrained by men through this binding.

Women’s place and role in the society is something that has been discussed and changed over time. Should their rights be the same as men’s? Should they be superior? Inferior? The world faces a dilemma on weather they should be or not equal as men.
With the rise of civilization also came the rise of patriarchy-based societies and the slow decline of the importance of women in society. For the longest time the history of the world has been written by men who have been the head of the patriarchy and have forgotten the role of women in history. It is important to realize that women do in fact have a place at the table with men when it comes to importance in history, and are not just the ones cooking and serving the meal. It is women who tasked with raising the next generation. By looking at women of the past, people of the future can learn and evolve to fight oppression and gain their own power.
Women’s Rights in Afghanistan As Afghanistan has evolved over time, the rights of its citizens have altered accordingly. The women’s population experienced a great amount of change as this country has seen a range of leaders who have ultimately decided their fate. These women have grown to be accustomed to disparaging expectations and standards as they are treated inferior to men. Women’s rights in Afghanistan have been largely impacted by the country’s past and current political state, as well as the imbalanced standards women in the current society have been obliged to follow.
