The European Mole Description Talpa europaea, or more commonly known as the European mole is a small cylindrical animal that can be found in most areas in Europe. This teeny mammal can come in many different colors such as tan, white, grey, and black. In length it normally is 12 cm or 4.7 inches, and weight ranges from 72 to 128 grams. It is bilateral, and has small ears, and the eyes are well hidden under the fur. Moles may have poor sight and their hearing isn’t the best, but that doesn’t stop them from digging. These mammals are well known for their excellent digging paws along with their extra thumbs.
