Characters Mask Their Character Shakespeare develops a lot of themes in The Taming of the Shrew, one is manipulation of characters. Meaning that the actor/actresses change their demeanour and attitude/behaviour to match their chosen status. Various personalities show distinct identities which change by the end of the play. It leaves the reader a lesson, which is not to be confused with the idea of appearance and reality.

A Taming Of The Shrew, an interesting title that portrays the storyline that involves Katerina and Petruchio mainly. Their love story is not so straight forward, there 's certain sides that portray separate feelings and the play depicts how Katerina takes on her newly wedded man. understanding their tangled mess Shakespeare wrote, people of all different academic levels try and understand the hidden meanings, although there will never be a final conclusion to what he portrayed. Katherine, known as Kat in “10 Things I hate about you”, is short-tempered with a shrewish type behaviour.

The language is comical, bordering on outrageous sometimes. It keeps audiences intrigued that are reading for the romance and hoops in audiences that wouldn’t normally stick around for a strictly romantic play.
Taming of the Shrew is a dramatic comedy in which several suitors try to captivate and marry a beautiful woman named Bianca. However, the suitors stumble upon an issue; Bianca’s older sister, Kate, is not married. Bianca is only eligible for marriage if Kate is married, so the suitors set out to find Kate a man. During Taming of the Shrew, the suitors of both Kate and Bianca are dishonest and deceive the sisters using disguises and mind games which results in a breakdown of all the characters.
In the Induction of The Taming of the Shrew, the lord plays a joke on the drunk Sly and tricks Sly into thinking that he is a mighty noble and has been asleep for fifteen years. The lord also acts like a servant to Sly instead as an equal. The pair switching roles is interesting for two reasons. One, since it is a trick, Sly does not know that he is switching roles; he is completely ignorant and is convinced this is his real life. Second, it is interesting to note that the lord became a servant instead of acting himself.
The adaption of the 1967 film “The Taming of the Shrew.” by Franco Zeffirelli, was a good adaption to the original play “The Taming of the Shrew.” by William Shakespeare, because the dialogue, and the scenes are followed well. Although going from a book to a film, you will always have some differences. In this case the alterations between the film, and the original play were minuscule. When you are reading a book, and then watching a movie, you can sometimes find yourself confused as to what is going on.
From Sexism to Social Reformation Many actions and ideologies of the characters in The Taming of the Shrew create an overarching conflict between comedy and sexism for most readers. Specifically, the relationships between the men and women introduce controversial topics such as obedience and love which must be questioned thoroughly. The conditions of Petruchio and Katherine’s marriage was more “traditional” in the sense that it was primarily patriarchal, and that Kate was expected to be subservient and obedient. While this is sexist, on the surface, this was not the intended meaning behind the works.
Some symbols would be when Katherina is made to ride a donkey after her being wed to Pertrucio, this is a symbol that Kate is now dependent and in the control of Pertrucio. Another symbol would be when Pertrucio was in a ridiculous outfit for the wedding, he was first mocking Kate by coming late to the wedding and by making her look ridiculous when he kept making jokes at her expense, this shows that kate was completley in the control of pertrucio and couldnt do anything about it. The main themes of “the taming of the shrew” are Love and humour. These themes are shown all throughout the movie, an example of comedy would be when Pertrucion shows up to the wedding in ridiculous clothing , another example would be when Pertrucio is chasing Kate around the house.
