Taoism and Spirituality: a Drift Towards Nirvana Nothing is something. The first step is acceptance of our own inadequacies as mere human beings. Allowing thoughts to freely come and go into our realm of contemplation, never meditating on a single thought alone. Taoism emphasizes simplicity concerning a topic typically crafted to be complicated. Acceptance of nothingness is not the belief in emptiness; it is the belief in purity of thought, allowing for the spiritual drift towards the great nirvana we all seek for the unknown end. She is not terribly religious, but was struggling with seizing the concept of God and His eternity. Grasping the nature of God is the equivalent of attempting to mentally grasp the idea of eternity. An infinite amount of things is a visual I am unable to picture. An innumerable amount of years, the concept of eternity, and the idea that my role in the universe is of minimal importance when it concerns the idea of infinity all troubled me. Seuss’ famous quote, “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” The epiphany I was seeking, the testimony I believed I was supposed to be acquiring, the divine presence I sought to feel, were all merely complicating my journey. I was making the drift towards spiritual fulfillment an eager pursuit, in which I was caught up in every twist and turn along its involved path. Taoism is the acceptance of nature in all things, appreciating and learning from whatever takes place in our daily lives. We desire a concrete solution, however Taoism teaches that through living, our inner nature will be expressed. A vague philosophy, however, peace is obtained through the humble nature of Taoism. The pursuit of an answer and the search of a spiritual purpose often stand in the way of living out our beliefs.
