Tara Westover's Educated is a memoir that tells the story of her life. It's written in a first-person narrative, where she shares her personal experiences growing up in a survivalist family in Idaho. The memoir format allows her to give us a glimpse into her unique perspective and the challenges she faced in pursuing education, despite her family's objections. What I really enjoyed about the book is how Westover uses vivid details and reflective insights to bring her story to life. Instead, her dad played a big role in shaping how she saw life. However, his bipolar disorder had a big impact on their family. Even though he strongly believed in the second coming of Christ, he didn't want to get proper medical help for any injuries his family suffered from work. They didn't take serious injuries like fingers getting cut off, deep cuts, or burns seriously. Instead, they relied on homemade remedies made by Tara's mom, thinking they were like "God's pharmacy". Despite the difficult and close-minded environment, Tara's curiosity and desire to learn ignited. Even though she wasn't the same daughter her dad had raised, a daughter of faith, it was in this environment that her love for learning started to grow. As Tara explored the importance of education, she realized that her family's controlling and absolute beliefs weren't the only ones. They didn't hold the ultimate truth. In fact, she discovered that she had the power to create her own truth, and it could have a huge impact. Due to Tara’s upbringing she gets wisdom beyond her years and states, “To admit uncertainty is to admit to weakness, to powerlessness, and to believe in yourself despite
