Have you ever met a person who completely inspired you? Someone who was so full of wisdom and passion you couldn’t help but be entranced by their every word? I was overcome with those feelings when I met the renowned homeopath, author, and philanthropist, Sylvia Faddis. I started working for Sylvia when I was 21 years old, I didn’t really know all that much about homeopathy or her charity, the Kailash Foundation. I just knew I would be helping her with her monthly blog and helping promote her iBook “Tea and Travels: Life Filled to the Brim.”

Although the do share similar physical features, each subgroup has its own history, customs, and culture (McNamara & Burns, 2009). There are many different perceptions of Asian Americans in general. I joined and participated in health promotion program offered at the University of Texas at San Antonio. It was named UTSA’S Rowdy Wellness Health Fair. It occurred today Wednesday, November 9th from 10am – 2pm located in the Sombrilla. The purpose of this program was to promote health and wellness to UTSA community.
Through my studies of human expression and its reflection of how people deal with world events in different ways, I developed sensitivity to other worldviews that continues to prove useful through my daily interactions with people of different backgrounds. I have learned that just like art, medicine involves pattern recognition and derives insight from experiences. Similarly, what I especially enjoy about being a medical assistant is interacting with patients on a daily basis and getting to be a part of their medical experiences, even if it is just by lending an ear. The experiences on my path to a career in medicine have made me want to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of those around me – a difference that leaves my patients in a better condition than they were in before I met them.
I was so amazed that I used to think I understand my classmates so well since we have spent almost 2 years’ time together. Without this privilege walk, I might still feel everybody was from the similar background. When interacting with patients in the future, I should be aware that they may have their own life stories that effect their health and decision making. I will try to understand my patients and treat them as a whole with the consideration of their life difficulties and stress. During this time, I noticed the difference in care provided between the doctor and the nurse. The nurse offered a more trusting relationship, emphasized the use of holistic care, and provided empathy, which was much appreciated. Thereafter, I began volunteering at Lowell General Hospital and experienced my own interpersonal relationships with the outpatients. I felt truly satisfied during my time there, as I was able to apply my values and experience the gratitude and warmth that radiated from each patient that I helped. At Pickerington High School North, a health class credit is mandatory for all students to to graduate. In this class, mental illness was talked about for a week or two total and mainly focused on the most over commonly known illnesses. For example, depression, anxiety, and anorexia. They didn’t even touch base on the The spectrum needs to be broadened.
