Today’s generation is focused on things such as technology that make them have faster-paced lives which make them not concentrated on the natural world or the situations around them. Therefore if they allow these things to distract them, they will not be able to see the beauty of the natural world and what it has to offer. In today’s culture people abuse technology and forget about what is behind their phone or computer screens, which limits them to connecting and fulfilling the responsibilities of the natural world. Cell phones and social media seem to be the root of the problem as to why people do not get out and see the natural world in person. Technology can be very useful at times to keep our society educated and informed to what is going on around them. Cell phones have features such as maps, calculator, weather, and email at their fingertips that can be helpful to a person at times to navigate them through their day. Young people depend mostly on technology and devote much of their time to social media and never see the natural world other than in pictures. Even though today’s society leans on technology to see the natural world and would rather see it on a screen than in person, they are not getting the full image and all of its beauty. If young people would go out to see the natural world they might find it quite amusing to the eye. Walter Kirn claims in, “The Grand Canyon: A Whole New World”, “It no longer disoriented and terrified but, in accordance with Colter’s ideals, it elevated the mind, enlarged the heart. And that was what I craved just then, I realized, after so many, so many decades of traveling toward a place that felt suddenly, uncannily like home”(Kirn 40). Young people are hiding themselves behind phone screens or televisions for hours out of the day and not getting out to see the natural world and doing the responsibilities to nature that they should be. If they were to give something new a chance, their views on the natural world might change and it might intrigue
