In the novel 1984, We go into the world of Winston and his grieving time in this universe of torture. Everything is obeyed to “Big Brother”, Big brother is basically the ruler of this world that they live in and he is always watching. Relationships of all kind have less value, the government watches one’s every move, and large groups of people are influenced to believe opinions at school due to the government. The government has regulations and records on everything and everybody. George Orwell may not have been very far from predicting the truth when writing 1984 in 1948. In this statement i mention relationships because winston had a “secretive relationship” with a woman meanwhile being held in this “prison.” Her name was julia and we hear about her on page#(125)"Almost as swiftly as he had imagined it, she had torn her clothes off, and when she flung them aside it was with that same magnificent gesture by which a whole civilization seemed to be annihilated."
These lines describe Julia undressing and are important because they concern the motif of Winston's dreams literally coming true, and highlight the manner in which Julia chooses to rebel. Also, gestures in general, because they are tied to Shakespeare in the story, are an expression of the human spirit.
