Our society today is never going to be private, especially with the technology that is being used today. Nothing can be hidden from the government, because even when people try to hide they will still find you somehow. Now the real question is how do we know if Big Brother is watching and what can we do to stop it? Technology in this point in time may be leading us to Big Brother but the society will never know. The technology today is very high-tech. Comparing our technology with the technology in 1984 is a big difference. In 1984 telescreens were the big things being used. Every room in 1984 had a telescreen, you were being watched on your every move. (Orwell and Fromm) The people that used the telescreens in this book was the Thought Police. (Orwell and Fromm) They could plug in the wire to the telescreen at any moment and hear everything you were saying. We can use them for money, messaging, phone calls, and any type of social media. We can be tracked by the government at any time even if our phones are off. Cameras can also track you down, knowing that you are being watched every second of the day can be scary. In the article “Long Beach Police to use 400 Cameras Citywide to Fight Crime,” states that a few dozen cameras are around the community. Even private cameras are being set up. (Winton) The Police Chief Jim McDonnell states “We are using every technology advantage to improve safety in this city. Long Beach officers will now know even before they arrive what potential threats they face.” (Winton) These cameras can help you with what you need to get, it is just a matter of looking at the tapes. The chief said “It won’t be a case of Big Brother is watching, because a central control center will enlist the private cameras only when police know an incident is unfolding in a certain area.”
