Have you ever thought about the negative effects of technology on our society? Although technology has done good for society in many ways, it has also had some negative effects on society due to the creation of false realities, the decline of an individual’s own knowledge, and the deterioration of human interaction. Till this very day the government has been a manipulator using technology as a widespread brainwashing tool on citizens. Brian Primack, director of the University of Pittsburgh proclaims “We are inherently social creatures, but modern life tends to compartmentalise us instead of bringing us together.” Nowadays people spend too much time glued to technological devices such as phones, computers, video games, etc… to the point that it basically replaces our social life. Elizabeth Miller suggest that “ It's possible that young adults who initially feel isolated turn to social media. Or that their increase use of social media somehow led to feeling isolated from the real world.” Either way social media has became a scapegoat to a world of isolation to relieve themselves of lonilness. In the book “Ubik”, Philp K Dick created Pat, who was jealous of Joe and his love for another woman Wendy, who was actually a cyborg. Joe paid so much attention to her that it led Pat to a feeling of contempt making her take on a false role of killing all members of Runciter Associates. And the lack of attention Joe and the others gave her made her isolate herself from the team.
