Technology’s Impact on the Medical Field Many different careers exist in the world, one of the largest being in medicine. The medical field has many different jobs, some of which are surgeons, physical therapists, nurses, pediatricians and anesthesiologists. All of these jobs are important in helping people when they are sick, injured or recovering. Electronic medical records (EMR) have really made a huge impact in the medical field by aiding healthcare professionals who work with coding and medical billing. Doctors are immensely benefitting from EMR’s because they can now easily access all patient care and determine possible illnesses. Not only has EMR’s helped improve patient care, but it has also reduced health care costs. EMR’s have made it so there are fewer errors in charting or no errors at all. Everything being on computer also makes it so that there are no errors like misreading someone’s handwriting. Innovations such as monitoring systems, scanning equipment and minimally-invasive surgeries have made patient’s lives pleasant and better by allowing them to spend less time in recovery and more time enjoying life.
New technology such as robotic surgeries have made it possible for patients to leave surgery with less scarring and less recovery time by allowing surgeons to perform surgeries from outside of their “home base.” Robotic surgeries cause less scarring because it is less invasive.
Another way technology has improved the medical field is by aiding in medical research. Physicians and medical scientists are constantly carrying out research and testing new procedures. Discovering and testing new procedures can help prevent, diagnose and cure diseases. It can also help develop new medicines that can lessen symptoms and treat illnesses.
Scientists can examine diseases on a cellular level with new technology. By being able to do that, scientists are able to produce antibodies against the diseases. Vaccines against diseases like malaria and polio have helped prevent the spread of
