Have you ever had a friend that you knew needed help but, when you try to help they didn’t want it? It’s hard for a lot of people to ask for help when they need it because they feel like they are going to be judged. Such as in this story a young teenage boy named Donny Coble had always had trouble with his teachers and even his parents. He quickly became addicted the drugs and alcohol acting as a activity in his mind. As some people around him tried to help him, he wanted none of it. Shortly his parents made the decision to send him to a private school. Teenage Wasteland by Anne Tyler showed that by getting the help you need, you need to want it for yourself. For example When Cal is talking to Mrs. and Mr. Coble about more freedom for Donny. Mrs. Coble replies with “But you see, he’s so suggestible’....’When his friends suggest mischief- smoking or drinking or such- why, he just finds it hard not to go along with them” (4). Even though Donny understands his friends often do make poor choices, he does still end up going along with it instead of standing up for himself or even trying to convince them not to do it. This makes him lose his parents trust. I think if he made the right choices for himself and not let other people make him think he has to make poor choices. He'd be in a much better spot for himself and his future. As you can see, in the story “Teenage Wasteland” getting the help you need, you need to want it for yourself. I only talked about a couple of the times that Donny could’ve got help, such as his mom talking to the principal, cal talking to him and his parents. We all have some downfalls in our life and we can’t let it get to us, when someone tries to help you.. Let
