The healthcare industry has and continues to develop at a rapid pace. Meaning that the health information technology (HIT) that makes up the industry is as well. Telemedicine is a well-known example of HIT, that has recently grown in popularity. The need for telemedicine to be utilized in the healthcare industry has become more apparent due to the conditions in the industry over the past few years. It entails face-to-face virtual visits, chat boxes, and phone calls with medical professionals typically for basic and routine medical conditions. For many medical facilities when and why they spend money is strategic, organizations offering funding will allow for more of these facilities to put telehealth in place. This expansion will allow for an increased number of patients to access telehealth, which can be beneficial to those that are not able to physically go to these establishments for minor ailments. Telemedicine grants these citizens easier access to the services they need in order to live and maintain a healthy lifestyle (Setiawan, Syamsudin, and Ruhiyat, 2018). Driving through an urban area, you are likely to pass numerous care centers such as Urgent Cares, hospitals, and doctor's offices all in close proximity to one another. Those living outside of these areas often have a longer than average commute to get to these facilities, for many, this is a huge barrier stopping them from getting the care they need. Telemedicine gives these individuals the opportunity to see medical providers without going the distance. Not only does this reduce commute time and save money for the patients but it also reduces the patient's risk of developing a more serious illness.
