There are many controversial issues concerning the Texas for Lawsuit Reform. Some include Asbestos, which “is the longest-running mass tort in the nation, and a classic example of lawyer-driven lawsuit abuse” (tortreform.com). Consumer Protection, where “Texas’ consumer production laws were being used by attorneys pursuing all kinds of civil cases, not just lawsuits involving ordinary consumers” (tortreform.com). Courts and Judges, “Our legal system cannot function without competent, fair and honest judges to interpret and apply the laws” (tortreform.com). Frivolous Litigation, frivolous lawsuits are not based on facts or the law and the Texas Legislature and Supreme Court are trying to strengthen the law to ensure lawsuits do not tie up our …show more content…

Venue, which deals with the locality of a lawsuit. “when a plaintiff manipulates the system in order to file a lawsuit in one of these preferred venues- typically by adding parties to the case who have little or nothing to do with the matter in dispute-it is called venue shopping” (tortreform.com). These controversial issues are just few of the many others that have an effect for the people or in general, Texas. Many citizens in Texas do not stand for the Texas for Lawsuit Reform and are against the interest group itself. There is an Anti-lawsuit group that pays a lot of money to Texas legislators to push for the ‘loser pays’ law, which is one of the laws that the Texas for Lawsuit Reform is trying to abolish. The “supporters (Anti-lawsuit group) say “loser pays” would discourage people from filing frivolous claims against business. Opponents (such as TLR) say it is aimed at discouraging people from filing personal-injury suits for fear they might be liable for the legal costs of a corporation’s expensive legal team”
