Law enforcement is a one of the major constituents in criminal justice system. Today there are many law enforcement agencies in the United States. The agencies range from local police departments to large federal agencies. Law Enforcement is made up of three agencies: local, state, and federal. Each agency is made of multiple departments. Some local law enforcement agencies departments are City Police Department, County Sheriff’s office, District Attorney’s Office Investigators. State enforcement agency departments include Texas Department of Public Safety, Parks and Wildlife Department and Criminal Law Enforcement Division. The Texas Department of Public Safety, other known as TDPS, is a very important state agency. The TDPS was established by Texas legislature in 1935 to enforce laws to protect the safety of the public and to provide for crime prevention and detection. (use different wording) The TDPS was first composed of six department divisions: the Texas Highway Patrol, Texas Rangers, Bureau of communications, Bureau of Intelligence, Bureau of Education, and Bureau of Identification and Records. Over a period, the TDPS has had major adjustments and reorganized the divisions. Today there are fifteen major TDPS Divisions: Administration, Criminal Investigations, Director’s Staff, Division of Emergency Management, Driver License, Public Safety Commission, Texas Highway Patrol, and Texas Rangers are the most popular divisions. The TDPS have strategies put into place to achieve the best public safety and homeland security in Texas. The strategies include sharing of important information in a timely and effecting manner by technology, to have proactive multi-agency operations, investigations and strategies utilized by data analysis and state intelligence based, and to fully implement local, regional and statewide disaster preparedness, response, and recovery plans for all hazards and threats. One of the most important federal law enforcement agency is the United States Marshals Service (USMS). The U.S. Marshals Service being the oldest American federal law enforcement agency, was created in 1789 under the Judiciary Act during George Washington presidency. The primary reason the USMS was created was to carry out all lawful warrants issued to President George Washington. Today the USMS is responsible for apprehending fugitives, providing protection for the federal judiciary, transporting federal prisoners, protecting federal witnesses, and managing assets seized from criminal enterprises. The USMS mission is to protect, defend and enforce the American justice system. The USMS strategic plan for 2014-2018 involves initiating the steps to better operational performance, prepare the agency to face future challenges and identify mission challenges and to find strategies to diminish the challenges. To implement these plans goals are placed into action to reach the highest successes possible. These goals include protecting the judicial process with the most effective manner, strengthening domestic and international investigations, improve detention and transportation with the safest cost effective plan, promote officer safety and provide support during domestic and international emergencies, promote professionalism, accountability, and innovation and develop a strong and
