On December 9, 2017, a dance performance called “Dancing with the Staff” took place in the Performance Arts Center at Sunny Hills High School. One of the dance pieces was “am I? I AM,” which was a modern contemporary dance choreographed by Andrew Rincon and performed by Dance Production. The lighting during the performance changed as it would highlight specific dancers or the entire group at certain parts of the dance piece. Performance quality allowed the dancers to display specific facial expressions and vary the strength that goes into their dance movements. Based on the tempo of the song, the dynamics of the dance differed as it continuously rotated between allegro and adagio. The contrasts in the tempo also created a contrast in the dance as the adagio dance segments consisted mostly of slow coupe and passe turns, allonge arms and legs, developpes, and arabesques while the allegro dance movements consisted of the jumps, coupe and passe turns, kicks, and arms movements that were sharp. Rather than just walking on and off the stage, the dancers would exit and enter through a promenade walk or various dance movements such as a turn on the ground that showed the dancers’ confidence in the dance as they looked towards the audience. If the dancers had weakly just walked off the stage while staring weakly towards the ground, it would have displayed their low self-confidence; however, their confident walks and dance movements proved their confidence in their dance. In different parts of the dance, the dancers would dance in unison while at other points of the dance, they would perform their own dance movements that were unique to themselves. The segments of the dance piece where each dancer was dancing their own choreography almost seemed to communicate to the audience the complications, while the choreographies consisted of the varying tempos of adagio and allegro seemed to communicate the lonely path towards
