Katelyn Harrington Philippians 2:5-11 is an important passage to help Christians understand what Jesus truly went through to be the Son of God. In this passage, it seems to be referring the obedience of Jesus. Jesus was in the form of God and he came to Earth and took “form of a slave”, born into human likeness. It tells us that he humbled himself into human form and was “obedient to the point of death”. The death that he experienced was one of the most torturing deaths a person could ever experience. This shows how committed Jesus was to God and what he would sacrifice for His people. Jesus was so humbly that he experienced a painful death so that one day people could be saved. In the entire book, the main argument that Paul is trying to get across is even though the people of Philippi are struggling with persecution and danger that they need to be faithful to God like Jesus was. Jesus faced persecution and danger daily, however, he still did what God told him to do. The Philippi people need to obey God during the troubles like Jesus did. It show Jesus humility and how he was willing to die to save us. In the book of Philippians, Paul’s main argument is to rejoice in the struggle and know that God is with the Philippians. Jesus was able to go through what he did because God was with him. The passage 2: 5-11 connects to the main argument of Paul’s by giving a full description of the identity of Jesus. It shows that love Jesus had for his people and that the Philippians need to also have that love for God. Rather coming to us as God and King, Jesus decided to take on the form as a human in order to sacrifice for our sins.
