One night, Thaljiyeh’s father had taken notice of his wife’s jealousy of Thaljiyeh and was brought to the conclusion that it was his wife who was making her do all the chores. He had arrived at this conclusion before, but always though that his wife would not do this to her. But what could he do about it. He first thought that he could send her to live with her grandmother, but then thought who would do the work around the house, surely not his wife or step-daughters. He eventually arrived at the conclusion that there would be no winners if he sent her away. He was too weak to confront his wife, so he figured that instead of changing his daughter’s situation, he would attempt to make it better. He began going on long trips to other villages
