The musical Young Frankenstein, by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan adds a comedic touch for the audience to experience, while trying to introduce some aspects of horror on the side. Through the elements of acting, costumes, scenery, sound, lighting, and directing/choreography, this musical was able to successfully portray itself as a comedy for the audience to enjoy and experience. The use of lighting throughout the musical enhanced the play overall, as it helped to transition between different scenes and to amplify the visual effects during scenes. One of the scenes, for example, titled “Please Don’t Touch Me” highlighted the use of the followspot, which is used to highlight the main attention that one of the cast members is speaking or singing
Recently a Broadway show has made millions of dollars. And the cost of tickets are going into five digits now. Every Tuesday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday thousands of people stand outside of the Richard Rodgers Theatre just to see the cast walk out of the back door. They are excited for the actor Leslie Odom Jr., who plays Aaron Burr. But they are more excited for Lin-Manuel Miranda, he is the actor who plays Hamilton.
The book, Cellar of Horror, recaps his brutal
A lot of developments were being made in the 1942-1945 time period. The US started to really get involved with World War ll, and race wars were breaking out in a number of major cities. Even with all of this madness going on Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein ll were able to create two beautiful shows, Oklahoma! and Carousel. These two amazing pieces of theatre have some dynamic characters that shed light on the rural American economic, social, and sexual complexities of that time.
The Outsiders The Outsiders, written by S. E. Hinton is a very enjoyable book, with lovable characters, an exciting plot, and detailed settings. It is so good that it was made into a movie, which was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The basic plot of the story is between the greasers, who are the poor, rough guys who wear worn-down clothes and hang out in gangs, and the Socs, who are the rich, polished kids that wear really nice clothes. The Socs throw beer blasts and think they are better than the greasers (Hinton).
Chicago, a musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse contains a range of stylistic and structural elements that further the narrative and influence the audience’s aural experience. ALL THAT JAZZ All That Jazz sung by the vaudevillian Velma Kelly, is the first song in the musical and begins deliberately moderately slow and mezzo forte or moderately loud to assist in introducing the musical to the audience, showcasing the suggestive nature of the lyrics, whilst leaving room to crescendo later in the climax of the song. A tenuto (an accent that holds a note for its full value), is employed on the A chord from bars 1-4 to weigh down the song, furthering the sexualised tone familiar to Vaudeville. Kander implements an E Augmented chord at bar 8 to introduce instability and tension early in the piece, complicating the standard dominant-tonic resolution. Having Eaug consisting of the notes E, G# and B#, gives a notably different feel as it creates a tritone interval as opposed to a straight E-A progression.
I, Laura Jane Addams, was born on September 6, 1860 in Cedarville, Illinois. I lived a very privileged life being that my father was a state senator and businessman. I was the eighth of nine children. As a child I battled many health problems. I suffered tuberculosis of the spine which left me with a curved back.
She spent two years reading and writing and considered her future. Addams had considerable dreams, and wanted to do something practical with her life. At the age of twenty-seven she began her second tour of Europe with her friend Ellen G. Starr. She visited the settlement house, Toynbee Hall in London’s East End. In 1889, she and Ms. Starr moved to Chicago Hull House (Mizrahi & Davis, 2008).

Bruce Joel Rubin’s “Ghost the Musical” was performed at American High School, by the American High School Performing Arts department, directed by Troy River. The cast presented an incredible performance that made the audience instantly fall in love with Molly and Sam. Richard Wong whom conducted the orchestra uplifted the music of each scene. The remarkable acting of the cast along with the many special effects was an incredible way to bring the script to life. “Ghost the Musical” takes place in modern day New York City and is a story of the strength of love between the main characters Molly (Natalie Dunn) and Sam (Marcus Bautista).
The Simpsons Hundreds of families have been portrayed over the years through different television programs. Each television family has different roles, statuses, and personas for every member. From cartoons to sitcoms, families have been plastered in front of viewers for decades. My personal favorite show, “The Simpsons”, happens to be the longest running television show in the U.S. For more then twenty-five years “The Simpsons” has been depicted as a dysfunctional family, however each member of the family takes on roles that are more consistent of a traditional family. Aside from the wild and whacky themes that come along with the show “The Simpsons” follows the blueprint of a traditional American family of five.
Music and the arts were heavily involved into Jonathan Larson’s life as a child and young adult. He was born February 4, 1961, in White Plains, New York, and was always musically inclined as a child. His parents found it vital to involve musical theatre into Jonathan and his sister Julie’s childhood. The Encyclopedia of World Biography states that “when Larson was a child; he was taken to see a children’s version of La Boheme, Giacomo Puccini’s opera about a group of struggling young artists or “Bohemians.” From that seed, the idea that would become Rent, slowly germinated over the next two decades” (Jonathan Larson).

Far Away From This and I Can Love You are songs performed by our musicals protagonist, Harper Atkins, in our original musical My Idea of Life. We meet her at eighteen as she is preparing to leave foster care. She has lived an unsatisfying, isolated life and has long dreamt of escaping to a faraway place; we watch as Harper navigates the challenges (and joys) of adulthood. Throughout the musical Harper realises that her idea of life is a romanticised, inaccurate version of reality yet finds inner strength to persevere through heartbreak and financial struggles.
