Based on current research, Adlerian theory is being used when working with students across different settings. Some researchers work with small groups and others with the individual itself. According to Carlson, Erguner-Tekinalp, and Hamm (2016), a study was conducted where 32 male teenagers participated in a 12-week group counseling program. The model used for this program was the Adlerian-Based positive group counseling approach. The goal was to increase positive emotions, engagement, and individual strengths. Reducing problems in behavior, emotions and cognition were also included in this study as goals. Especially when the students are encountering times of trouble at school. Students have great difficulties in school when dealing with bullying, depression, cyberbullying, and other school difficulties. From an Adlerian counseling perspective, human behaviors are rooted based on and individual’s social contexts. When students are able to forgive, they are letting go of unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. They are able to reach awareness and control of their behaviors. Followed by controlling and regulating their own thoughts and feelings. Gratitude is linked with having a sense of abundance and tendency to notice and appreciate the contribution of others (Carlson, Erguner-Tekinalp, & Hamm, 2016). By applying the Adlerian counseling method, students are allowed to experience life as a good life, a meaningful life, and a joyful life. Students who suffer from depression may be able to find a way to overcome those negative thought and can enjoy life. These techniques can also be taught to teachers and parents. Parents, teachers and counselors can work with the student when they focus on what is working instead of what is the problem. An Adlerian school counselor can use the theory of individual psychology to target cognitive-learning, social and self-management skills. The researchers explain the Student Success Skill (SSS) program where counselors conjointly work with teachers helping them implement a series of progressive lessons and small group counseling activities to enhance the learning environment.
