I think this was a very interesting short story, being the plot was intriguing, attention grasping and mysterious. The story’s rising action was cleverly placed by making Santiago’s character show so much personality by defacing his brother’s painting. By doing this we know that the character has some type of emotional dislike towards him and that he’s angry and willing to act on his feeling. Readers learn why the character shares so much hatred for his brother and father as well. The character is pretty much lonesome and isolated, you do a good job at writing the mental state of the character. We learn he has a mother who is experiencing financial difficulties which strengthens the character’s enraged behavior, but we don’t necessarily learn
