To me, the concept of the American Dream should be food for a starving man, and warmth for a cold one. It should be someone being able to acquire something that they don’t have, but desperately need. Some might say the Dream is the stereotypical nuclear family living in a quaint house with a white picket fence, or the opportunity to be whoever or whatever one wants.

We really first start to see foreshadowing to this theme in the second Chapter with George Wilson and Myrtle Wilson, one making a living as a mechanic/gas station operator, the other making money by being in an affair with Tom respectively.
