In a time where society relies on technology, imagine a place where technology is scarce, and sometimes non-existent. The Amish religion is filled with many weird lifestyle options that separate them from the normal person today. Jacob Amman founded the Amish religion in 1693, however the practices and beliefs are ideas based off of Menno Simons, who was the founder of the Mennonite faith. Amman is where the term “Amish” comes from, and he who started it meant for it to be a type of Mennonite group, ended up creating the Amish religion, which has roughly 300,000 people today practicing this religion. They are located in those areas because they need large areas to create their farms, and small suburban cities. Pennsylvania is also a common location of Amish people is because Pennsylvania Dutch is spoken in some parts. The Amish religion of around 300,000 is gradually growing and there have been signs of movement towards the west. Churches have their own leaders who are always men, and these leaders will lead the church in its learning. These leaders are selected through a process known as “the lot” (Amish Studies) where they go through a list of objectives that get them selected as a leader. The main reason the Amish religion is so intriguing is because of the lifestyle they live. When you see how they dress, both men and women, or how they live their lives, it definitely grabs your attention. Today it seems everyone is connected through technology, including the most basic things such as farming. However the Amish find a way to remove technology from their lives and it’s unlike anything in today's society. Some parts of the religion that I do not like include beard growing without cutting, and the clothing of both men and women. Not every man can grow a clean full beard, which is concerning because it doesn’t seem like the best looking thing for men who cannot grow clean beards. Also the clothing is very outdated and looks like it could be a problem
