The book that I decided to read for my quarter book report was Manhunt, The 12 Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer by James L. Swanson. I chose this book because I thought it would be interesting to learn about how they actually tracked down Abraham Lincoln’s killer after he was assassinated. Manhunt went into a lot of detail about how Lincoln’s killer, John Wilkes Booth, was found. The story started off on the morning of March 4th, 1865, which was the morning of Abraham Lincoln’s second inauguration.
The book Chasing Lincoln’s Killer tells a mysterious story about John Wilkes Booth’s expedition as he tries to escape the soldiers trying to find him. James L. Swanson tell an informational adventure story about how Booth attempted to escape his search. The whole book talked about Booth’s escape journey including his capture. On the night before Lincoln’s assassination Booth could not sleep knowing what he was about to try to accomplish. The final hours that he spent not being the most wanted man in America was at a bar.

John Wilkes Booth would kill the president at Ford’s theater, His accomplice George Atzerodt would kill the Vice President at the Vice President’s hotel room. Lewis Powell and David Herold would kill the Secretary of State.

John Wilkes Booth was a twenty-six year old actor who was a strong, loyal, and passionate confederate. Booth and his conspirators had a mission to take down some of the top leaders of the United States of America - the President Abraham Lincoln, Vice President Johnson, and U.S Secretary of State William Seward. In assessing this plan, which is similar to any other assassination plan, it includes good and bad situations with conspirators, location/time, and also weapons.

The book I read was “Chasing Lincoln’s killer” by James L. Swanson. This book is about the events that took place before, during, and after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. I enjoyed this book, because it was very informative, as well as fun to read. I also like how there were pictures to help explain the events. This book took place in Washington DC and Canada.
Late on a April night in 1865, the unthinkable became true. America’s president had been assassinated. In 1865, a lot changed for Americans who were in love with their president after president Lincoln was shot. There are many conspiracy theories questioning who was involved, for what reasons, and the bigger reason the assassination was planed. The fate of those responsible will also be examined.

Kennedy, the 35th United States President, was assassinated on November 22, 1963 during a parade while he and his wife were visiting Dallas, Texas. The Warren Commission has concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald, a lone shooter, was the man who committed the crime. Over the years after Kennedy’s death, people have come up with other ideas of why and how this president died. One of many conspiracies was made by his wife, Jacqueline Kennedy, saying that Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson had something to do with it. She believed that he wanted to become the president so badly that he would kill to get it.
The President was assassinated in Springfield Illinois, so his body had to be transported, via train back to Washington DC, where his funeral would take place. According to Edward Steers Jr, the author of Blood on the Moon, a biography and explanation of Lincolns assassination, that on route to Washington D.C. “the train traveled 1,664 miles and made scheduled funeral stops in eleven cities” (Steers 278). The funeral procession was one like nobody had ever seen before.
O’Reilly introduces John Wilkes Booth as the mastermind behind the President Lincoln assassination. John Wilkes Booth was a well-known popular stage actor from Maryland. He starred in many different shows that people, such as the president, would attend. After the Civil War the Union supporters from the North celebrated day and night. The people were excited that they had won the war, except John Wilkes Booth.
Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth who supported the Confederacy even though they lost the American Civil war to the Union. Booth murdered Lincoln while he was watching a play at Ford’s Theatre. The murder was similar because there were apparently several co-conspiritors who helped Booth plan the assassination. Both of

Back then when he was killed people were in disbelief, sorrow but some felt joy. Lincoln was very loved but some people did not like him because they were racist. Abraham Lincoln and Civil War America is a biography that tells the life and success of Abraham Lincoln. At the beginning it talks about his life and how rough he grew up. As Lincoln grew up he wanted to learn to read and write because he was ashamed that his father couldn 't. Lincoln learning to read and write was a key factor to help him win the election and become as successful as he was. Even as a young child Lincoln claims to naturally be anti-salvory ( page 281). This is important to his stand point during the war.
As Booth began his bold escape, the fate of Abraham Lincoln was unknown. According to “Abraham,” Charles Leale heard the pistol fire and Mary’s scream, so the twenty-three year old doctor sprinted towards the wounded President . When Leale reached Lincoln, the young doctor saw the physical condition of the President. “He found the president slumped in his chair, paralyzed and struggling to breath” (History.com). “Assassination” states that the doctor reacted quickly by ripping the President’s shirt open for a physical examination, but Leale could not find the bullet wound.
